The Assamese department of Bahona College was set up at the time of establishment of the college in 15th July 1966. The Major course was started in the year 1977 and the first batch of Assamese Major Course was graduated in 1979. Promod Buragohain, Budhindranath Hazarika, Jiten Saikia and Dr.Narendranath Dutta were the pioneer group of teachers of the department.Rohit Rajkhowa, Mrs Rupali Hazarika also offered their service for a short period. Since inception, the department has been running smoothly and near about 300 students has got their graduation from the department under Dibrugarh University.


Mission and Vision

The Department of Assamese, Bahona College has been flourishing with the dream of enduring the mother language and culture. It keeps the mission of protecting the language with the local dialectical varieties, folk literature, colorful cultural assists and the like. The department aspires to motivate the students to be the devotee in the work of growth of literature and culture. We expect students to be acquainted with world literature through the Major Modern Indian Language (Assamese). The Department of Assamese hopes to popularize the folk-literature and culture amongst the new generation. In concise, the mission of the department is to help the institution of higher education in growing as a center of excellence of imparting education and all round development of the learners. Since language is the linking bridge of the people, we hope that people will be able to expect a better society of humanity through reading, writing and translating from other languages also.

INFRASTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES AVAILABLE:

Department has a very good infrastructure for academic activities. The department has a Desktop and printer where teachers and students can work. The desktop is connected with broadband and one can surf internet and download files for their academic works. The department is also covered by college Wi-Fi facility.

The department has a library where more than 300 books are available. Students can avail a book for 7 days from the library. Currently Bibha Das is the library in-charge of the departmental library. Apart from reference books and text books, it has a huge collection on journals and magazines donated by the faculty members of the department. Students can read those journals and magazines at the departmental room.
