Department at a glance
Department of Zoology was established in 1972 and UG course was started from 1st July, 1975. The science stream was brought under deficit system in 1978. Major in Zoology was introduced in 1981. The Govt. Concurrence to grant permission for subject Zoology was received on 25th August 1983.
It is one of the student friendly departments of the college with almost all facilities for Zoology major students. Further, a vocational subject "Industrial Fish and Fishery" was introduced under the dept. Zoology in 1996-1997 with financial aid from UGC for 6 yrs. From 2005 another certificate course - "Integrated fish farming" has been running. Department of Zoology also cultures Honey. This department able to generate revenue by selling of fish & fish seed, honey etc and contributes revenue to the College fund.

INFRASTRUCTURE:
1. Classrooms cum laboratories: 4 (Four)
2. Well furnished Teachers Common Room for faculty members,
3. Rich Departmental library with more than 510 Text and Reference books; journal and magazines.
4. Computer/ LCD projector: One Computer with printer, internet and LCD projector screen.
5. Laboratory and Research Instruments: Digital Spectrophotometer, Microtome machines, Microscopes (Compound, Dissecting and Trinocular Research Microscope with CCD camera & software disc), Advance Research Medical Microscope, Haemocytometer, Blood pressure Apparatus, Stethoscope, Respirometer, Glucometer, Insect’s nets., Binocular, Centrifuges, Incubator, Kymograph, Chromatography Chamber Tissue homogenizer, PH meter, Balances, DSLR camera.
6. 1 pond, 3 nos. of Aquarium with accessories, fishing nets, other equipments for pisciculture.
7. 2 nos of functioning honey bee hives with extraction instruments,
8. 1 nos of productive vermicomposting unit
9. Financial support to students: Scholarship- Rs 1000 (one thousand) for students securing 80% or above in major. The faculty members of the department offer financial support to students facing monetary problem. Also students are supported by providing text books, reference books, photocopies of notes etc.
