In the year 1972, the quest for human excellence inspired Bahona College, the only institute of Higher education of North-East Jorhat to introduce Science Stream. The Department of Chemistry came under deficit grant-in-aid system with effect from 1st January, 1978. The objectives of the department is to impart quality education to students of the locality and other parts of the state. Our students have been successfully absorbed in high positions in institutions such as NEIST, NRL, OIL, ONGC, CMERC, Oil companies and other fields in India and abroad.

The department has an Alumni Association 'BANDHAN' and a Chemical Society comprising of retired teachers, faculty members and students of the department. The Society undertakes extension programmes on popularising Science in this locality.

A wall magazine "Bonding" published by Major students with a view to develop their creativity is released every year.


Vision
The importance of chemistry is undeniable in every field of science. It offers scope for research, employment in academic, research and development, industrial, pharmaceutical and other fields. The objective of the department is to impart quality education to the students of the locality and other parts of the state. Our students have been successfully absorbed in high positions in Institutions such as NEIST, NRL, OIL, ONGC, CMERC, Oil companies in India and abroad, as Assistant Professors and teachers in various schools and colleges all over the states.

Inter-departmental quiz competitionAs a part of academic/co-curricular extension activities, an inter-departmental quiz competition was organized on 20th March, 2019. With overwhelming support from the participants, students and faculties from various departments, the program was a grand success. The program was coordinated under flagship of the head of the department. Dr. Parsanna Dutta, hon’ble principal of the Bahona College inagaurated the programme. Celebration of World Environment Day at Charigaon Girl's High SchoolINTERDEPARTMENTAL STUDENTS’ SEMINAR,2017 On 20th March 2017, the CHEMICAL SOCIETY, Department of Chemistry, Bahona College organized an interdepartmental students seminar on “ Nurture Nature For our Future” as the main theme of the seminar. The different sub-themes were waste Management, Biodiversity, Global climate change ,Renewable energy , Population & environment. The seminar was held at the Rupknower Seminar Hall of Bahona College and altogether 18 papers were presented by the 35 students from different Departments of our college. Celebration of World Environment Day at Bahona Balya BhawanOrganized by Chemical Society, Department of Chemistry, Bahona College. · Departmental Library has more than three hundred text books and nearly two hundred reference books.

· A spacious well-furnished teachers’ sitting room.





Grievance redressal in relation to internal examination

Following measures are being taken by our department to address any grievance related to internal examinations-

1. Proper judgement of the answer scripts

2. The students are being called to check the evaluated answer scripts, to address any queries regarding the same.

3. Question paper discussion after the examination
